Carlos is visiting family in Portugal and he took some time to make a few recommendations of places to visit if you decide to take a trip to his home country.
While most people are familiar with Porto, Lisbon, and Algarve, Carlos says they are certainly worth visiting, but you should also explore cities outside of these three. However speaking on Porto, Lisbon, and Algarve, he says Porto offers visitors great wines and a glimpse into the culture and process behind their wineries. Don't miss Clerigos Church and the amazing view from the tower.
Carlos' hometown of Serra de Estrela is also a must visit - boasting the highest mountain in Portugal as well as lush green foliage, lagoons, castles, and even occasional snow, he says it is a city full of culture and beauty. He also recommends Loriga, a city with a large swimming lagoon nestled in the valley between two mountains.
Lisbon is chock-full of Portuguese culture and is definitely worth seeing, but he reminds you that it is a big city and a tourist hotspot, so be ready for crowds and traffic.
Algarve is home to Fabrica beach, where Carlos says the water is crystal clear, and accessible only by boat. Also look into Alte - a place full of coffee shops, a river with a swimming hole, and beautiful scenery, and Silves hosts a medieval fair and historic architecture.
