We took a couple of day trips form Arrifana down to Sagres and Lagos. Admittedly, we didn't spend too much time in Sagres. The fortress was gorgeous from the outside, but we arrived too late to enter (get there before 5pm to enter!).
Sagres is a chill small town, with surf shops and a few restaurants, but we felt the urge to go surfing and move along. It's worth a stop to go see the edge of Europe and the cool fortress at the tip of the pennisula.
Lagos, however, was awesome! There is a cute and lively old town, with good restaurants with outdoor seating and great vibes. What we loved the most however was the beaches along the south eastern coastline. There were an array of coves ranging in size from small and "private" to large and open with beach chairs and umbrellas provided by a local hotel. We found a trail along the coastal cliff and walked it for almost two hours. We highly recommend this if you're interested in a casual hike. You get to see the whole coastline and drop down onto the beach when you find a spot you love. The water is generally calm because it faces south, with most larger swells/waves coming in form the northwest. This makes it perfect for swimming or paddle boarding.
Have fun and we hope you like our video!
