From our Algarve home, we try to schedule visits to locations in Portugal and Europe several times per year. Whenever we can, we route our itinerary to or through Lisbon. We love the city and its offerings.
In mid-July 2023, we stopped in Lisbon for a few days of touring, dining and shopping. Upon arrival, we walked the Baixa Chiado area near our hotel. Our 1st stop was at a burger specialty restaurant called “Honorato”. It is by far the best burger in Portugal and is the best burger we have had in many years. Beefy flavor and chargrilled to your liking on a fresh bun. Dinner was a really good thin-crust pizza at a streetside bistro.
The next day, we took a private tour of Lisbon by car which also stopped at nearby seashore towns.
Returning to Lisbon from our 1st tour by mid-afternoon, we used our pre-purchased tour tickets from www.hippotrip.com. They depart from a location near Lisbon’s cruise terminal and tour the riverfront area by land and sea. We boarded an amphibian vehicle which showed us popular sights along the riverfront by land. Then the vehicle plunged into the Tagus River and navigated along the riverfront showing Belém Tower, the Navigator’s Monument, beaches and other noteworthy points of interest.
Next day, purchased 24 hour Metro passes and visited the Timeout Market and the adjacent fresh produce & fish market. Back in Baixa Chiado, we brunched on a wonderful selection of “Sweets” from a streetside Pastelaria and Cafes. After walking around the area near our hotel, we enjoyed dinner at Sabor Gaucho Rodizio in the Armazens do Chiado building, a 6 story complex for shopping and a large food court on the upper level. This steakhouse serves a continuously rotating selection of meats and side items cut to order at your table. It also has a salad bar. We thought our dinner was wonderful.
The next day, we took the Metro from our hotel to Oriente Station to catch our train home in the Algarve.
We love Lisbon and we love Portugal.
