TAVIRA AND SANTA LUZIA THE ALGARVE a Walking Tour Portugal 2020, we explore the town of Tavira in The Algarve Portugal, a historic town with well restored historic buildings, including a medieval bridge, castle and town square. Tavira is a perfect place for a quieter Algarve Portugal vacation holiday. Tavira is on the Gilao River which has a beautiful medieval bridge which you walk across to get to the other half of the city.

Our visit was in February 2020 and the weather was very nice around 18°C with beautiful blue skies. After walking around the city centre we walked up to the castle and two churches that dominate the city skyline. Also near the castle is the Camera Obscura in a structure that resembles a North American water tower.

We then take a short drive to Santa Luzia the octopus capital of Portugal. There is a commercial fishing fleet that catches lots of octopus offshore, in the small village are a number of waterfront restaurants that specialize in octopus dishes, the most popular being Casa do Polvo, Santa Luzia is a small town centred around commercial fishing, it is near to the famous Formosa Nature Reserve famous for the bird life and nature walks.
