Possible male Black Scoter (Melanitta americana) off Faro beach yesterday afternoon (03-Oct-2016). Bird shows extensive orange on the upper mandible, no "knob" on saddle visible. Other features, like "thicker neck" and "floats higher on the water"or "more pronounced hook on bill tip" could not be confirmed or are not visible due to the big distance (full zoom on scope plus camera zoom on phone) and low light situation. There remains some rest uncertainty, because there are some male Common Scoters with excessive orange on the bill.
