UK Covid-19: Angry Brits in Portugal react to new amber list quarantine rules

Photographs taken at Faro Airport in the country's southern Algarve district this morning show hundreds of UK families ignoring social distancing as they form huge queues in the departures lounge.

Cabinet ministers last week announced that Portugal will be downgraded to amber from 4am Tuesday citing concerns about the so-called Nepal coronavirus variant.

At the time, though, just one case of the strain had been detected in Portugal, while 43 cases had been identified in the UK. Some 20,000 passengers departing from Faro this weekend have had to pay exorbitant prices to buy PCR tests so they can fly back from Portugal ahead of the 10-day quarantine deadline.
