Koh Samui is the second largest island in Thailand, located in the Gulf of Thailand off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus. It is immensely popular with tourists for its palm-fringed beaches, coconut groves, lush mountain rainforests, luxury resorts and chic spas. On a small island connected to Samui by a dam, there is Wat Phra Yai with a golden statue of the Big Buddha 12 meters high.
