Praia da Luz – meaning Beach of Light – is a compact town in Portugal’s Algarve. It sits behind a sheltered bay with an ancient-fortress-turned-restaurant on one side and black-rock cliffs on the other. Shops, bars and eating places fill the town and run down past the church onto the patterned promenade, where summer craft stalls set out their wares. And it’s all topped off with a lovely stretch of sand.
