Time to decorate my Christmas tree! Every year, I decorate my tree differently. I decide what colors I want to use and then go get some new decorations. This year I decided to do red and white (very traditional).
I use a real tree. Normally I get my tree from Lowe’s. But these year they sold out so fast, I went to a local tree farm.
For my decorations, I always start at Dollar Tree and then go to Michael’s. I try to get all of my flowers from Dollar Tree but sometimes they don’t have the colors I’m looking for.
Here’s my process that I follow when decorating my tree:
1) Add tree filler to any gaps or big holes in the tree.
2) Trim the top of the tree (to make room for topper).
3) Wrap lights around the tree (starting at the top).
4) Add ribbon (or Christmas garland).
5) Add flowers, pine cones, berries, leaves, etc.
6) Add ornaments.
7) Add tree topper.
8) Add tree skirt.
Here’s some tips:
1) Add smaller ornaments to the top of the tree and the larger ornaments at the bottom.
2) If you’re using a star as a topper (or anything else that needs to be plugged in), make sure you start wrapping the lights with the end that has the outlet. I give more detail in the video.
3) Fill holes with flowers.
4) Use flowers sprays and berry/leaf picks to add texture to your tree.
5) Add in pops of a neutral color like silver or gold.
6) Be creative! Try new things every year!
7) Use two types of ribbon.
8) Buy decorations on sale at the end of the season for the following year.
9) If you’re using a real tree, keep it watered. When you first get the tree, it will need water every day. Then after that, it will need water every 2-3 days.
10) If you’re using a real tree, give it a few days to fall after you bring it home. It’s easier to decorate and you can see any gaps or holes.
